Photography - Workshops & Tours - This is an outline of What’s on Offer

  • I love helping people with landscape and nature photography. Whether you're just starting out or you're already a seasoned photographer.

My workshops are all about what “you're into” - whether it's capturing the beauty of the season or exploring cool spots like Loch Ard in The Trossachs. I'll show you my approach, expertise, and the techniques that you've seen in my photos.

Together, we'll dive into the details of landscape and nature photography, making sure you get the personalised learning experience you're looking for.

  • On the day(s) of our shoot, I will take care of all the logistics, but I am also willing to discuss the intricacies of planning and forecasting with you.

Understanding the methodology behind location selection and shoot planning is crucial. A significant part of this process involves predicting the weather conditions expected during our shoot. This foresight greatly increases the chances of capturing optimal lighting conditions. I can provide insights into the most effective apps and tools for weather forecasting and demonstrate how to use them effectively.

Together, we can delve into the planning phase, giving you the knowledge and tools to optimize your photography outings.

  • Throughout our time together, we're going to cover everything about taking great photos in the moment.

We'll start with any tech stuff you need to know and then move on to the important things like how to frame your shots and use light well. I want to help you bring out your creativity because everyone sees things in their own way.

I'll encourage you to express yourself through the scenery we come across and remember, there's no right or wrong way to do it. What really matters is that you're happy with the photos you take.

During our workshop, I'll be there to help you out with any problems you run into. Most importantly, we'll make sure to have fun along the way.

Spending time in nature usually brings a smile to your face, and I want to make sure we focus on enjoying the whole experience while also aiming for great photos.

  • While this workshop isn't primarily focused on post-processing, I recognise its critical importance—post-processing truly represents about 50% of creating a remarkable image.

Should we encounter challenging weather conditions that limit our outdoor photography, I'm eager to offer an informal, coffee-side exploration of my post-processing techniques.

During these impromptu sessions, I'll gladly share insights from my personal workflow, offering practical knowledge that you can apply to your own photographic practice. I'll have some concise reference notes available—an 'Aide-Memoire' you can take away and study at your leisure, ensuring the knowledge continues to benefit you long after our workshop concludes.

These optional discussions will be relaxed and tailored to your interests, providing a valuable opportunity to learn post-processing techniques without disrupting the workshop's primary photography focus. Think of it as a bonus learning experience, sparked by whatever inspiration (or inclement weather) might arise.

Testimonials

Testimonials are a photographer's secret weapon for marketing workshops.

They're more than just nice words, they provide Social Proof and Credibility, help with Personal Connection and Emotional Resonance, they can help Build Trust and Reducing Perceived Risk, and Highlighting Unique Workshop and Individual Qualities… and there’s more, but safe to say they are important.

“Quick background on me, I am a life long photographer who specialised in motorsport photography and in particular Motorcycle racing at all levels. I have been published in motorcycle journals, worked on commissions for motorcycle teams and on behalf of individual racers from grassroots to ex motorcycle world champion Randy Mamola for whom I supplied promotional images.

For the last few years I have expanded my photography portfolio to include wildlife and landscape images and it was during a wildlife outing to photograph White tailed eagles in Mull onboard the Lady Jane that I met and became firm friends with Phil.

We hit it off immediately with our passion for photography and it quickly became apparent to me that Phil was in another league in regards to his ability both technically and compositionally to myself, although you would never here that from Phil as that is not the type of man he is.

With me he has been extremely generous with his time and imparting his knowledge and professional standard of photography in regards to both wildlife and landscape expertise. We have, since meeting on Mull, been on a few outings throughout the Trossachs area where Phil has lived and worked for over thirty years. His passion for the Trossachs and its photogenic beauty flows from him and is so very contagious. Big Phil as i call him, is a highly professional photographer and exceptional talent who loves nothing more than encouraging and educating like minded photographers from raw beginners through to more experienced individuals.

If you are thinking of enhancing your skills regardless of your current level of photographic ability this is the man I strongly recommend. You will not only come away from his course a better photographer but you will also have had a very relaxed and fun filled break with a fantastic tutor in a beautiful part of Scotland”.
