After visiting these two Distillerys
You will be telling one heck of a story…
This page is in development, but you will get a flavour of what’s in store…
The tour takes longer than you might expect at around 5 - 6 hrs depending on which tour you choose at the distillery
From where you are and safely returned..
The tour includes a list to two local distilleries
Glengoyne &
Deanston
& a small tour of The Trossachs
In a previous life I stocked and sold products from both of these distilleries - I can without any ambiguity, heartily recommend the offering from both distilleries
A few words about Glengoyne:
Glengoyne Distillery is a Scottish single malt whisky distillery located in the village of Dumgoyne, near Killearn, in the southern Highlands of Scotland. Here are some key facts about Glengoyne Distillery:
History: Glengoyne has been producing whisky since 1833, making it one of the older distilleries in Scotland. It is one of the few remaining Scottish distilleries to practice the traditional methods of distilling.
Production Process: Glengoyne is unique in that it uses only air-dried malted barley and distills its spirit very slowly, allowing for maximum copper contact. This contributes to the light, fruity and delicate character of its whiskies.
Whisky Range: Glengoyne is known for its unpeated, highland-style single malts. Their core range includes the 10-year-old, 12-year-old, 15-year-old, 18-year-old, and 21-year-old expressions.
Awards: Glengoyne has won numerous awards over the years, including multiple Gold medals at the International Wine and Spirit Competition and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Ownership: The distillery is currently owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, an independent family-owned company based in Scotland.
Visitor Experience: Glengoyne offers tours and tastings for visitors, allowing them to explore the distillery and learn about the traditional methods used in the production of their whiskies.
Overall, Glengoyne is renowned for its commitment to traditional distilling methods and producing high-quality, unpeated Highland single malt whiskies with a distinct fruity and delicate character.
And a few words about Deanston:
Deanston Distillery is a Scottish single malt whisky distillery located in Deanston, near Doune, in the region of Perthshire. Here are some key details about Deanston Distillery:
History: The distillery was founded in 1785, originally as a cotton mill. It was converted to a distillery in 1966, making it one of the younger distilleries in Scotland.
Production Process: Deanston is unique in that it is one of only six distilleries in Scotland that uses traditional Scottish straight-heated stills. This method of distillation contributes to the distinct character of Deanston's whiskies.
Water Source: The distillery draws its water from the River Teith, which runs adjacent to the distillery buildings.
Whisky Range: Deanston is known for its unpeated, Highland-style single malts. Their core range includes the 12-year-old, 18-year-old, and Virgin Oak expressions, along with various special releases.
Ownership: Deanston Distillery is currently owned by Distell Group, a multinational alcoholic beverages company based in South Africa.
Visitor Experience: The distillery offers guided tours and tastings for visitors, allowing them to explore the historic distillery buildings and learn about the unique production process.
Unique Features: Deanston is one of the few self-contained distilleries in Scotland, with its own cooperage and maltings on-site.
